Therapy Room Moments – Episode 1

Why Trust Takes So Long to Rebuild After It's Broken

In this Therapy Room Moment, Gabriel Lobato explains why rebuilding trust in a relationship often takes longer than people expect and how the nervous system plays a role in restoring safety.

In this first episode of Therapy Room Moments, I share a moment from counseling that illustrates why rebuilding trust in a relationship can take longer than people expect. When trust is violated, the person trying to repair the relationship often feels like they’re making a tremendous effort… while the other person still seems guarded. From a neurological perspective, trust isn’t just a decision — it’s a nervous system process. Real repair happens through consistent signals of safety over time. Sometimes the most important relational insights come from simple moments in the therapy room. Therapy Room Moments is a series where I share short reflections on meaningful moments from counseling that reveal deeper truths about relationships.
